BY BROOKE BATTERSBY
The streets of Deep Ellum are filled with one-of-a-kind boutiques, creative shopping destinations, and tons of delicious cafes, bars and restaurants. People often think of it was a nightlife destination, but go during the day, and you’ll find a trove of treasures to fill your home or wardrobe! Below we’ve compiled a list of some of our favorite stops on your journey through Elm, Commerce and Main St.
JADE & CLOVER
If there’s one thing I love shopping for, its trinkets. While Jade & Clover is known for its succulents and potted plants, there are so many other finds in the walls of this trendy market. Apothecary goods are kinda my thing and this store has everything from bath bombs to face masks and more. Whether you’re looking for delicate necklaces, beautiful stationary, or crafty coasters for your mancave, Jade & Clover has something for everyone.
LIFE OF RILEY
This long-standing neighborhood staple of a gift shop has been around even before Deep Ellum became the hot spot to go. From candles to art to books to greeting cards to even home decor and furniture, Life of Riley offers a sophisticated yet eclectic mix of goods. Next time you’re perusing the area, we definitely recommend finding this shop, or as the owner says, “a general store with flair.” It’s location is a bit hidden, but worth the hunt!
Founder/CEO Brittany Cobb has a passion for the unique and Flea Style’s HQ is nothing near ordinary. Stop inside and prepare to be overwhelmed, excited and awe by the beautiful finds. Be on the lookout for one-of-a-kind clothing articles, artistically crafted home goods and jaw-dropping jewelry. This boho-meets-eclectic-meets-eccentric boutique is the perfect stop on your spree through Deep Ellum.
My weakness? Spoiling my dog with toys, treats and random finds from cute pet stores. The good news? Upper Paw makes it easy. This hidden gem on Commerce Street has everything from puppy popsicles to collegiate training leashes. The employees are always super helpful, and your furry friends are always welcome. And the best part – so many of their products are all natural and delicious. But don’t take my word for it: my boxer Rhett dreams about their baked treats and rawhide bones.
ARCHER PAPER GOODS
Headquartered in Atlanta, Archer Paper Goods just recently opened this new location in the heart of Deep Ellum. One review calls this treasure, “A candy store for art supply, paper, and stationary lovers,” and that couldn’t be more accurate. Chock full of intricately-crafted goods, Archer Paper Goods gets its name from the outdoorsy vibe of each of its products. Check out some of the most creative greeting cards and stationary you’ll ever see, distinctive gifts and tons of inspired inspiration.
P.S. if this spot looks oddly reminiscent of The Merchant ATL on Greenville, that’s because they’re sister stores!
At Crossroads consignment store, you can exchange high-end clothing for cash or store credit. And with all of the trendy finds, and higher percentage payout, it’s a no brainer. Swing inside to find your favorite brands, and one-of-a-kind steals, all at a fraction of retail price. This spot might not be a local retailer, but it certainly fits the hipster Deep Ellum vibes so a welcome addition to the neighborhood!
