Was 2018 the year of the live music venue?! We are calling it that yes, it was. At least in Deep Ellum, as three spots joined that neighborhood along last year! So which are they? And what others should you check out too?

Mama Tried Honky Tonk

Mama Tried arrived with lots of hype this year, bringing a honky-tonk to the center of Deep Ellum. Friday and Saturday, you can expect both free and ticketed live country shows. And sometimes you can even attend a concert featuring a well known smaller artist, overtaking the entire outdoor patio area. On Sunday’s, it’s open mic night at this bar.

Revelers Hall

If you’re looking for that New Orleans style brass brand music, look no further than the new Revelers Hall in Bishop Arts! The spot has live music Thursday through Sunday, and when the weather is nice, they open the doors so you can watch from the street and even hear the music from down the street, bringing even more life to the neighborhood!

The Blue Light

Another bar centered around live music in Deep Ellum, The Blue Light focuses on Americana music. You’ll find live music at the Main Street 400-person venue Mondays and Wednesdays through Saturdays, with both free and ticketed shows. And if you’re thinking you’ve heard of the Blue Light before, that’s because it’s sister bar is Lubbock institution of the same name! You can even find aspects of original, here at the Deep Ellum spot

The Pavilion at Toyota Music Factory

This massive new 7,000 spectator entertainment complex known as the Toyota Music Factory welcomed a new addition last year - The Pavilion. Best described by the website itself, “This state-of-the art venue converts from a 2,500 intimate theater, to a 4,000 capacity indoor theater and opens up to an 8,000-person capacity boutique open-air pavilion.” From Odesza to Leon Bridges and more, the Pavilion has already been hosting plenty of big acts with more to come this year! Stay tuned for lineup announcements!

Ruins

We can’t get enough of Armoury DE’s new mescal and rum bar - inspired by a trip to Oaxaca along with the “ruins” bars aka former abandoned buildings that have been remade into eclectic grungy bars, you find in Eastern Europe. One room within the bar exudes Latin influence while the other room offers live music, Thursday-Sunday! You can expect local artists and more rock type bands performing.

Box Garden at Legacy Hall

Box Garden at Legacy Hall

One part patio bar, one part beer garden and one part concert venue, the new Box Garden is the centerpiece to Frisco’s Legacy Hall endeavor. The complex is impressive in its own right, but walk outside and you’ll enjoy a huge 1500-person capacity entertainment area. Live music takes place on Friday and Saturday nights, but Box Garden doesn’t only host bands, but also football watch parties, karaoke and trivia throughout the week!
