The 12 Places To Catch Weekly Jazz in Dallas

updated May 2019

One of the coolest things in Dallas is hardly ever talked about, and that’s all of the jazz nights around town! Whether you’re in Lakewood, Deep Ellum, or somewhere else, there’s almost always live jazz happening somewhere in Dallas!

The Balcony Club

The balcony club

The Balcony Club is the ultimate Dallas jazz bar! Established in 1988, The Balcony Club is nestled in Lakewood on Abrams, right next to the historic Lakewood Theater. They offer live jazz shows in an intimate, laid-back setting every night of the week. You will feel as if you entered a beatnik alleyway bar in Brooklyn in the 50s. The Balcony Club keeps both their website and their Instagram up-to-date, so you can check each week’s schedule in advance.

This Fair Park spot has been recognized not only by our very own Dallas Observer, but by the New York Observer and USA Today as well! Sandaga 813 sits on Exposition Drive, right in front of the fairgrounds. It’s definitely off the beaten path, but those who know it exists love it. You can catch Grammy-nominated jazz musicians performing there on the regular! Their jazz nights are every Tuesday and Thursday, and there are cabanas, hookah, and BBQ as well, so don’t miss out on this Dallas gem.

City Tavern recently relocated from Main Street to Elm Street in a beautifully redone historic building near The Eyeball. Head there for “seriously amazing jazz” and modern pub vibes. The fun begins at 8 PM, there’s no cover, and they have a $5 ‘Whiskey of the Week’ special to pair with the live music!

Chocolate Secrets, located on Oak Lawn, is an adorable little “secret.” Head inside and grab a glass of wine and some chocolate - the perfect combination! Then, hunker down and listen to some great jazz, which they have every Wednesday through Saturday! The acts are constantly changing though, so you can check out their website for a full calendar of events.

Every Thursday night, you can catch William Foley live at Terilli’s, an iconic Greenville Ave restaurant. They switch up their music quite a bit, but sometimes have jazz other nights of the week as well, so keep your eye on their music calendar! Terilli’s has delicious Italian food and a great patio, so their vibe is different than many of the other jazz clubs in town.

This wine bar, hidden in the basement of the Southside building in the Cedars, hosts a variety of events over the course of the week. It’s the perfect intimate spot to enjoy a glass of wine, flatbread, and live music. When we went, there were only a few other groups in the room, so you could really take in the music and atmosphere.

Revelers Hall

Revelers Hall

The newest place to join the line up, Revelers, opened just a few months ago and has already cemented itself as a go-to live music spot in the heart of Bishop Arts. The music will draw you in from wherever else you might be, with the doors opened wide and sounds bellowing into the streets. It’s a New Orleans-style music hall, and they mix it up with house musicians and special guests. There are brass band performers during the day on Saturdays and Sundays, and Daniel Porter also does jazz on select nights, so check their calendar!

Times Ten Cellar is a full-production winery and tasting room, with an expansive patio or cozy living room to enjoy your wine! They have jazz every Sunday from 4-7 PM and it’s BYOF, too, so you can grab food to-go somewhere in Lakewood (Cane Rosso anyone?) and bring it with you!

Buzzbrews Deep Ellum

Buzzbrews Deep Ellum

You might not think jazz bar when you hear “Buzzbrews,” but this 24-hour southwestern diner brings in the 18-piece Rebel Alliance Jazz Ensemble to perform on most Sundays at 6:30 PM. It’s quite the show and we love that you can order breakfast while you watch, or pull out your computer and get some work done!
