Whether you love the enjoy tamales as a holiday tradition, or love the Mexican dish year round, we have rounded up a list of local restaurants to seek out for really good, handmade tamales!
Tamaleria Nuevo Leon
Opened in 2019, the Richardson tamaleria has already garnered quite the reputation, with many stating in reviews that they’re the best they’ve ever had. We went to try for ourselves, and this spot hidden in the center of a strip mall, is a true gem. You can choose from a long list of varieties, in 1/2 or full dozen packages, whether you’re dining in or taking out.

The tamales here are heavily recommended, but you’ll have to drive to Coppell, Keller or Grapevine for the market & cafe. They’re passionate about their tamales but make Mex favorites too!
THE TAMALE COMPANY
What started as a tamale pop up at events and markets around town or through online, turned into a brick-and-mortar bodega in Duncanville. We’ve had their tamales many times and they’re amazing!

In East Dallas, La Popular has been serving since 1984. You can find it across from Jimmy’s Food Store, and the tamales are served single or by the dozen. We’ve heard they have great vegan options too!
