Who was Shakespeare?: Discussion at Interabang Books

shakespeare.jpg

As our 48th season begins with Shakespeare Dallas Presents: Shakespeare in Love and Shakespeare Dallas Presents: As You Like It, we are excited to offer a program where you may, perhaps, acquire a new perspective on William Shakepseare, our favorite Bard.

Who was William Shakespeare? Could an “upstart crow” with no formal (university) education or aristocratic pedigree really have written so many works of such timeless perfection? Could a “mere” actor really possess such a sweeping command of language and intricate philosophical reflection? Or was there someone else behind the scenes – the godfather (or godmother) of ghostwriters? If so, who were some of the candidates?

Join Shakespeare Dallas’ Executive & Artistic Director Raphael Parry & lead actor in Shakespeare Dallas Presents: Shakespeare in Love, Montgomery Sutton as Dr. Connie Tate (Texas A&M) directs an audience centered conversation - “A prose by any other name: Who was William Shakespeare?” In this discussion, you will enter the centuries old debate regarding the “true” identity of the famous playwright amid dozens of possible “bogus bards.” You will discuss what evidence exists for either scenario, Shakespeare’s contemporaries, the question of aurthorship in the context Shakespeare Dallas' current production of Shakespeare Dallas Presents: Shakespeare in Love, and engage in a (hopefully) lively discussion.
