If you haven’t heard of mezcal yet, let us introduce you. Mezcal is tequila’s smokier cousin, and while it has been around forever it seems to be just now getting its long overdue day in the sun. Like tequila, mezcal is made from agave but is cooked in an underground pit giving it a nice smoky flavor. Las Almas Rotas opened up in 2017 near Fair Park in a rustic, casual spot and offers an amazing selection of mezcal and other Mexican spirits. For those new to mezcal, Las Almas Rotas offers flights of 3 or 5 so you can taste a few different kinds or try out one of their cocktails like the El Charro that features pineapple infused mezcal. If you really want to dive in and learn more about mezcal, keep up to date with their events as they frequently host educational events, or “agaveducation” as they call it, for free so come ready to drink and learn!

Jettison is a chic, cozy cocktail bar in Sylvan 30 that sits right next to its’ sister bar, Houndstooth. This small, swanky space is tucked away in a corner with only a small sign indicating its’ existent, but this unassuming bar is one of the best purveyors of mezcal in Dallas serving over 10 variations of the smoky substance. If you are just looking to sip some mezcal, have one of their knowledgeable bartenders point you in the right direction or try one of their mezcal cocktails like the Brujeria, which is mezcal mixed with pisco, lime, and muddled seasonal fruit with rosemary and cinnamon to top it off.

Ruins is one of the best new spots in Deep Ellum serving up mezcal. They have an enormous selection of mezcal to sip on as well as a number of smoky cocktails. My personal favorite is the Azteca 666 that has Del Maguey Vida mezcal, Altos tequila, serrano agave, lime, cucumber and cilantro; so come for the mezcal but make sure to stay for their delicious Mexican food with a Oaxacan twist.

Meso Maya is hands down one of the best Mexican restaurants in Dallas, but did you also know they feature quite the selection of mezcal? They feature 7 different types of sipping mezcal and have actually recently updated their menu at all locations to feature 2 new mezcal cocktails. They recently added both the Chica de Humo: Illegal mezcal, cointreau, triple sec, ancho reyes, fresh pineapple and lime juices as well as the Puerto Escondido: Sombra mezcal joven, Cointreau, fresh muddled cilantro and sage, fresh pineapple and lime juices, and agave nectar.

Jalisco Norte might be the mecca of mezcal in Dallas. Featuring over 30 different types of sipping mezcal along with a mezcal cocktail or two, this should be your new go to spot if you love tequila’s smoky friend. Jalisco Norte also serves some of the best Mexican food in town offering both classic and modern dishes. Stop by and sip on some of their mezcal or try the Tropical Sazerac: gracias a dios espadin reposado mezcal, flor de cana 7yr rum, pineapple anise syrup, angostura and peychaud’s bitters, and absinthe mist.

You might have heard the rumors of an El Come mezcal bar. Well they are true, and it’s finally here! The spot hidden by its wedding dress facade is located just two doors down from the Fitzhugh taqueria. El Come has been a favorite of ours since we first moved to Dallas and their new mezcal bar with amazing handcrafted cocktails are just as amazing as the tacos you can find next door! It’s a small space with a cool vibe, authentic table snacks including crickets, and colorful, fruity takes on mezcal drinks!
