Since 1976, S&D Oyster Company has been a cornerstone of Dallas’s seafood scene, serving up some of the freshest Gulf Coast flavors in the city, in its adorable and historic 130-year old brick Mckinney Ave spot.

Originally founded by Herb and Mary Kay Story, S&D began as a passion project after Herb’s time as a Navy fighter pilot stationed on the Gulf Coast. The Storys longed for the fresh seafood they had enjoyed during his service, but Dallas was sorely lacking in options. So, they did what any seafood-loving couple would do: they built their own restaurant.

A LEGACY OF CONSISTENCY & TRADITION

For nearly five decades, S&D has been a no-frills, all-flavor kind of place, where platters of fried seafood, bowls of dark-roux seafood gumbo, and towering plates of fresh oysters come out of the kitchen like clockwork. It’s a restaurant where the menu doesn’t need flashy reinvention because the food, served on red-and-white checkered tablecloths, speaks for itself

 

SAME TEAM SINCE THE BEGINNING

The head chef and sous chef have both been at S&D for 47 years (!!), the night chef, 37 years.  And the front-of-house team, for 40+ years. In a notoriously high-turnover industry, that is SERIOUSLY impressive, and speaks to the love and community this restaurant fosters.

 

NOW WITH A FULL BAR & COCKTAILS

Last year, the team behind Rex’s Seafood purchased S&D and while they largely kept S&D unchanged, one major update has arrived: a full bar and a new cocktail menu!

 

MUST-TRY MENU ITEMS

S&D has always been about fresh, simple, high-quality seafood. Some of the longtime favorites that keep customers coming back include:

  • Oysters on the Half Shell: Fresh Gulf oysters, served ice-cold with cocktail or remoulade sauce

  • Seafood Gumbo: A deep, dark roux loaded with shrimp, oysters, fish, okra, and seasoning

  • Fried Seafood Platters: Choose from oysters, shrimp, red snapper, Gulf trout, or crab cake, served with hush puppies, coleslaw, and fresh-cut fries

  • S&D Sliders: A trio of seafood sliders, featuring oyster, shrimp, fish, or crab maison

 

HAPPY HOUR SPECIALS

Stop by Monday through Friday from 3pm 6pm for $2 off cocktails, beer and wine plus $2 oysters! And wine bottles are half-priced all day on Mondays! 

PS don’t forget to end your meal with homemade lemon pie or bread pudding with whiskey sauce!
