Of all 1960’s pop artists, Marisol remains one of the most mysterious, colorful, and complex. The internationally touring exhibit has landed at the Dallas Museum of Art, showcasing her work from the 1950’s through the early 2000’s and is the most comprehensive collection of Marisol’s work ever displayed!

ABOUT THE ARTIST

Born in Paris to a Venezuelan family, Marisol spent her early life traveling before becoming a fixture in New York’s 1960s art scene. Known for her striking looks, bold fashion, and friendships with icons like Andy Warhol, her art reflected her unique view of culture and identity!

STAND OUT MOMENTS

While exploring the exhibit we were blown away by the range of her art, from wood carvings to paintings, and sculptures ranging all sorts of sizes! Our personal favorite was “The Jazz Wall” that blends both 2D and 3D elements (which you’ll see as a theme across her work).

And yes, if you notice familiar faces throughout the exhibit, it’s because Marisol often used her own image in her work, along with her personal clothes/shoes which can be seen throughout her sculptures!

UPGRADED CAFE + MUSEUM STORE

The DMA cafe also recently got a major upgrade and is the perfect stop to drop in for lunch or a coffee before or after exploring the exhibits! Don’t miss the museum store with themed merch for all the exhibits and more art for purchase.

VISITING

General museum admission is always free, but “Marisol: A Retrospective” requires a $20 ticket (free for members). Pro tip: visit any first Sunday of the month and the entire museum is free to attend!
