Nothing’s official yet, but the Dallas Stars have reportedly started conversations with multiple North Texas cities about where they’ll play once their lease at American Airlines Center ends in 2031.

WHY THE POSSIBLE MOVE?

According to the Dallas Morning News, team president and CEO Brad Alberts says the team is looking for long-term growth opportunities… a space where they can build their own arena and surrounding entertainment district to create year-round experiences (and more local revenue).

The Stars are reportedly looking for 75+ acres of land and hope to decide on a location in the next six to eight months if they choose to relocate.

WHERE COULD THEY GO?

💚 Plano: already home to one of the team’s rinks and a top contender

💚 Frisco: current home to the Stars’ headquarters and practice facility

💚 Arlington: already a major sports hub with the Cowboys and Rangers

💚 The Colony & Fort Worth: both in talks too

The City of Dallas has made it clear, though, that they want to keep the team downtown and plan to do their part to make that happen.

WHY IT MATTERS

The Stars have called Dallas home since 1993, and over the past decade have become one of the city’s most consistent franchises, reaching the playoffs in 6 of the last 7 seasons and making the Western Conference Finals three times in a row.

Nothing is set in stone, but if they were to relocate, it would mark a major shift for Dallas sports and potentially the future of the AAC.

Would you want to see the Stars stay in Dallas? Or move to a new arena elsewhere in DFW?
