Recently we stopped by the historic gem that is Flying Horse Coffee! The coffee shop is a downtown staple due to the flying red horse that stands as their mascot while offering classic cafe eats and showcasing local artwork in their comfy digs!

Flying Horse is part of The Magnolia Hotel originally built in 1921 as Magnolia Petroleum Co! Its 29 story structure was one of the city’s first skyscrapers towering at over 400 feet tall. The building’s landmark? You guessed it, a statue of Pegasus deemed the Flying Red Horse! Thus when naming the downtown coffee shop on the ground floor in 2012, they stuck to the building’s historic roots.

Coffee

Whether its an escape from the workday or an afternoon pick me up, their “Liquid Culture” coffee will do the trick! The beans are sourced from small coffee farms roasted in small batches for just the right aroma + flavor. We tried a classic cup of the house blend before moving on to their crafted coffee bevs!

Menu

In addition to coffee + espresso, they have teas, smoothies and frozen drinks like the Orangecicle that sounds perf for hot summer days. We’re already looking forward to cooler weather to order a Hot Caramel Apple Cider! Top it off with a pastry fresh baked in house, oatmeal, breakfast tacos and grab + go items!
