From the Vandelay Hospitality group of Hudson House and Drakes, comes a new spot that feels like a combination of the two: D.L. Mack's. We checked it out and LOVED it! A Chicago-style tavern that looks like it’s been there for decades, the food, drinks, atmosphere and branding were all on point, and we can already guess that it’s going to be a neighborhood fave!

ABOUT

D.L. Mack’s aims to be a “timeless American tavern”, with dark wood, cozy booths, old time photos and memorabilia, classic white and black tiled flooring. Even the servers are adorned in classic waiter uniform of white shirts with bowties and aprons. The restaurant is inspired by Chicago’s Lincoln Park neighborhood and storied brownstones, and even the patio is adorable (and has a retractable roof!)

They call it the “oldest new restaurant” to open this year, which is fitting given that we were telling people that it felt like it had been there forever, before reading the press release!

DRINKS

Walk into the warm restaurant and choose a booth, patio or bar spot. The bar is gorgeous and is reminiscent of mid century modern design, grab a seat and order a “World’s Coldest” classic or espresso martini, perfectly fitting with the swanky throwback vibes. You can also order classic cocktails with a twist like an Old Fashioned with Anejo, or a frozen Paloma, or true classics like a Negroni, margarita or Bee’s Knees.

FOOD

Upscale classic American bar food, you’ll find burgers, mozzarella sticks, garlic knots (insanely good), Caesar salad, a chicken tender plate, chicken wings, and a steak frites to name a few. Their signature dish though? Their pizza! We tried the signature Return of the Mack with Jimmy’s sausage meatballs, onions and pecorino cheese and the Harry Caray Special with pepperoni, pickled jalapeño and pesto aioli….both were amazing!

And we will be back for the Honey Truffle Chicken Pizza with chicken tenders, white truffle oil and honey!

So head over to Hillcrest Blvd, across from SMU, to find this tavern! It officially opens Tuesday!
