The Wayback is a charming stay close enough to Austin to go in and out, but far enough away to enjoy Hill Country terrain and tranquility! You may have spotted this cottage hotel on our feed earlier this year and having just stayed there, we are showcasing them again!

ABOUT

Opened in 2019 by a mother-daughter duo, they spent five years bringing to life an idea for a gathering place for the Westlake Hills area but it became so much more! There’s the cafe for the public and guests alike to enjoy, plus eight scattered cottages providing a cozy getaway outside Austin!

THE ROOMS & GROUNDS

The furniture and design of The Wayback is definitely a selling point. It has this French countryside feel to it with a lot of linen, vintage wood furniture and stringed lights and bistro sets around the property. The dreamy pool can be found in the middle, with cottages and cafe on opposite ends, plus a firepit and cabana filled with games, books and more.

Everything’s decorated with big live oaks to set the scene of this charming and sophisticated spot! And the cottages that sleep 2-4 people are comfortable and spacious, many with hill country views!

ON SITE CAFE

The Wayback Cafe is a farm to table eatery fixing up a seasonal menu of southern staples + fresh additions! Dine inside where rustic meets boho or al fresco on the patio and outdoor lawn to soak up the surroundings. Start with breakfast Wednesday-Sunday or enjoy a lunch and dinner Thursday-Saturday! And don’t forget the refreshing watermelon marg to pair with any poolside lounging!

Overall, we had a great stay at The Wayback and loved exploring a different part of Austin, as you’re not too far from the big distilleries and breweries of the Austin Hill Country, you might even find some outstanding barbecue too. Great for a romantic getaway, girls trip, or family vaca, you’re also not far from town if you want to pop in and enjoy the city life too!
