We finally stopped by the white brick building on Ross Avenue that we have driven by so many times before, and we had a great experience at Sweet Grass Market! We weren’t sure what to expect but were impressed by our meal and the super friendly staff!
Sweet Grass Market is the first black-owned chain of upscale C-stores and is bringing a healthy market and kitchen to a community where healthy options are few and far between. The atmosphere is friendly and welcoming and truly feels like your neighborhood market!
Step inside a modern market with prepared meals, household/pantry items, healthy snacks, a full kitchen serving fresh cajun foods, and a coffee and smoothie bar! There is even a charging station and lounge so you can enjoy your meal, sip your latte, and stay awhile!

The female chef driven menu is Cajun inspired with po’ boys and étouffée and has some fun twists throughout! One of which we can’t wait to try is the blueberry waffle with Cajun fried chicken dusted with powdered sugar! They also host daily and brunch specials like a Stuff’d Seafood Baked Potato! For now, you can experience Sweet Grass at its original location on the corner of Ross and Fitzhugh, where they’ve created a trendy space from a renovated gas station! This year, they will be moving Downtown to service a more central location with their healthy and comforting eats!
