Atmos Energy's Winter Warm-Up Checklist

Atmos Energy encourages customers to knock out these simple tasks before cold weather hits — and especially before the first freeze of the season:

1. Confirm your natural gas service is active.

If your account has lapsed or you recently moved, reconnect your service now to avoid delays.

  • Call 888-286-6700 (Monday through Friday, 7am to 6pm Central Time)

  • Or reconnect anytime in the Atmos Energy Account Center

2. Activate text alerts.

This is the easiest way to stay updated before, during, and after extreme weather.

Opt in through the Account Center → Notification Preferences.

3. Save money and energy.

Natural gas is about 3.5 times more affordable than electricity, but higher usage during cold snaps can still raise bills. Atmos Energy recommends:

  • Setting your thermostat to 68°F during the day and 58°F when away (where safe to do so)

  • Reducing shower and bath time (hot water can account for up to 40% of use!)

  • Checking out rebates for high-efficiency appliances and weatherization in parts of Texas at atmosenergy.com/rebates

4. Follow key winter safety practices.

A few cold-weather must-dos for every DFW resident:

  • Inspect your natural gas piping and appliances regularly — and follow manufacturer instructions for safe operation

  • Never use your oven or stovetop to heat your home

  • Make sure smoke detectors and carbon monoxide alarms are working

  • Clear snow or ice from around your gas meter (yes, even in Texas — February 2021 taught us that!)

More safety tips can be found at atmosenergy.com/winter.
