NEW RESTAURANTS: NOW OPEN

Boxed & Brewed

Neighborhood: Downtown

Cuisine: Cafe

About: Local venue management and catering company Boxwood Hospitality has opened a cafe, serving chef-crafted grab-and-go eats like elevated boxed lunches, fresh breakfast options and premium coffee out of the historic U.S. Post Office building.

The 101: This spot is the perfect weekday breakfast or lunch spot, with plenty of options for when you need an on-the-go sip or bite! The options are more elevated than a typical grab-and-go spot, and on the menu you’ll find hearty breakfast tacos, fresh salads, and sandwich boxes that come with a side and a cookie.

Cris and John Pho

Cris & John

Neighborhood: North Dallas

Cuisine: Vietnamese Mexican Fusion

About: This famed fusion restaurant both closed and opened its doors within one week, relocating from 5555 Preston Oaks Road to 6090 Campbell Road Suite 136. The new space is much larger, with ample parking, and the menu features all the favorites like Phorittos and Birria Ramen, plus a few new items.

The 101: Wow! This is one of the smoothest relocations we’ve ever seen, and we’re super pumped about the new space, full of color and plenty of space – IYKYK, the old location would get absolutely packed! The menu is still just as delicious, and a few new additions that caught our eyes were the Basic Chick Bánh Mì, Ginger Chicken Tostadas, Bò Lá Lốt Skewers, and the Matcha Horchata.

DAD JOKES CHEESYBURGER

Neighborhood: Frisco

Cuisine: American, burgers

About: What started as a food truck last year has now turned into a brick-and-mortar, flipping smashburgers in Frisco’s Rail District. Founded by local Frisco parents, the restaurant has a “dad joke” theme, distributing a printed joke with each order.

The 101: This spot's burgers are as cheesy as its jokes, and the fries fried in beef tallow make it a can’t-miss. We have our eyes on the Smoke Stack burger, which is the perfect marriage of burgers and barbecue, complete with bacon jam!

About: This buzz-worthy spot has taken over the former Sfuzzi space, with a funky living room feel and lively vibes. The menu features elevated bar eats, all from Michelin-recognized Chef Peja Krstic of Mot Hai Ba and Pillar, paired with an extensive selection of playful cocktails.

The 101: We stopped by on opening night and could already tell this is such a happening spot! From the patio to the pool table, the vibes here are perfect for groups. The menu is delicious, we loved the burger and the burrata! To sip, get the spicy pickle marg (trust us) and the nostalgic spiked Orange Julius.

The 101: As longtime fans of Easy Slider’s many iterations (Deep Ellum, food truck, and now the new brick-and-mortar), we’re thrilled to see them cook up a new concept! In Good Company is perfect for a quick lunch, and they have some fun options you won’t see at their sister concept, like a Pretzel Dog, Reuben on a Roll, Ribeye Cheesesteak, and Fried Chicken Caesar Wrap.

Norman’s Japanese Grill

Neighborhood: Oak Lawn

Cuisine: Western Japanese Fusion

About: Duro Hospitality, the team behind iconic spots like The Charles, Sister, and Cafe Duro, is venturing into a new cuisine: Japanese. They’re giving it a Wild West twist, serving sushi and wood-fired meats in the former Homewood space.

The 101: We absolutely eat up everything Duro has to offer, and can’t wait to sink our teeth into their latest venture! The space is very Wes Anderson-coded, and the menu is a little all over the place in the best way possible, with everything from whiskey to wagyu. If you want to check it out, we’d recommend booking a res ASAP!

Plano Tortilla Factory

Neighborhood: Plano

About: The Plano Tortilla Factory has reopened under new ownership – after over 35 years in operation, the original owners decided to close the doors and retire….until their grandkids decided to purchase the restaurant and continue its legacy. The remodeled space is now open, serving all its classics like breakfast tacos, giant burritos, handmade tamales, and more.

The 101: We were absolutely thrilled to hear that this spot would live on, and were so touched by its story. It’s the definition of a family-owned restaurant! You can’t go wrong with anything on the menu – everything is super authentic, it’s a cult-favorite for a reason!

The POT Baked Potato Bar

Neighborhood: Cedars

About: Formerly housed in the South Dallas Cloud Kitchen and following an abrupt closure, The POT Baked Potato Bar is back in a new location, serving what some call “Dallas’ best baked potatoes”. The entire restaurant is dedicated to the dish, with out-of-the-box toppings like salmon, lamb chops, buffalo chicken, and more.

The 101: An entire restaurant dedicated to one of our favorite carbs? Say less! These are the baked potatoes we didn’t know we needed, and we’re excited to see them get a fresh brick-and-mortar! Our must-tries on the menu are the Taco-ato, aka a taco baked potato, and the Sea Pot, full of Cajun flavor.
