We were recently down in Grand Prairie exploring and on our way home, we drove through Cedar Hill and Duncanville. Searching for some Mexican food, we came across Jimmy's Tacos with stellar reviews online and gave it a try. It may be a quick and easy hole-in-the-wall, but it's an incredible must try!

Jimmy's Tacos

When you pull up, you’ll realize you have arrived at a gas station, not a taco stop. And you could easily think there was a mistake if you don’t head inside. In the corner next to the cashier is a kitchen and just a few chairs with countertop seating. Jimmy is there to cook you up some mean tacos or fajita plates right in front of you! And while you are in a gas station supermarket, his little area is colorful and charming. 

MEXICAN CUISINE

The menu consists of seven types of $1.99 tacos, nachos, a burrito, a quesadilla, and special plates. Those include a steak or chicken fajitas plate, beef or chicken soup, a salad and a tamale. We tried the taco plate served with rice and beans plus a tamale and a chicken fajita plate. Everything was superb and had a Nicaraguan twist to it. And if you don’t know what that means, we didn’t either til enjoying. The tamale was flatter and more round and cooked in a banana leaf, making it really moist. The rice used was white, not red, and the chicken in the fajitas was cooked with a great red savory but sweet rub.

NICARAGUITA MEX

Just down the road, in the Super Fiesta Baazaar, is Jimmy’s Nicaraguita Mex Food Stand serving more traditional Nicaraguan dishes with a Mexican twist! We can’t wait to go and try! But make sure you note that the Bazaar is only open Thursday-Sunday even though Nicaraguita’s hours on Google are incorrectly marked as open daily.

Visit Jimmy’s Monday-Thursday from 9 AM - 7 PM, or until 8 PM on Fridays. And if you’re an early riser on Saturdays, he starts serving at 5 AM!

So add Jimmy’s to your list! It’s certainly worth the drive, and it’s great to support restaurants in the Southern Dallas region that don’t often get a lot of love or recognition but that deserve it just as much!
