Mexico City’s legendary El Califa de León, aka the world’s first and only Michelin-starred taquería, is bringing its famous tacos to University Park for a two-week run, now through October 28th!

UPDATE (as of 10/21)

We wanted to share an important update following reports from guests about their experience at the El Califa de León pop-up in Dallas.

The Mexico City taquería has officially stated that it had no operational control over the Dallas event once it launched. According to a new statement, El Califa de León has ended its collaboration with GrinGO, the group behind the pop-up, to prevent further misrepresentation of its brand.

They also clarified that they are no longer associated with any activities, menu items, or promotions being offered at the Dallas location or through GrinGO.

We know many of you were excited to try the world’s only Michelin-starred taquería, and we’re disappointed to hear about the confusion and negative experiences that followed. But it sounds like the real Califa de Leon from Mexico City was not involved in the operational side of the pop up, and we hope that their reputation remains intact.

EL CALIFA DE LEÓN

El Califa de León has been a Mexico City favorite for over 50 years, known for its humble setup and world-class flavor. The taquería earned a Michelin star in 2023 for its simplicity and consistency, and made history as the first taco stand in the world to do so. This year, it retained its star, continuing to serve some of the best tacos on the planet from a tiny counter that only fits a handful of diners.

THE SIGNATURE DISH

Its most famous bite, the Taco Gaonera, features thinly sliced beef filet grilled to order and seasoned only with salt and lime, served on a homemade tortilla… which the Michelin Guide calls “exceptional.”

THE POP-UP

The Dallas pop-up follows a successful run in Arizona and celebrates Mexico City’s food scene through a partnership with GringoApp.com and Melinda’s.  This is your chance to taste one of the world’s best tacos without leaving Dallas!
