Located right off I-35, it’s only a short two hour drive from Dallas and just 45 min from Austin, making it the perfect stop on your road trip! If you’re craving a quick getaway from the city, the Shady Hill Villa is calling your name!

Updated August 2022

The history of Shady Villa dates back to the mid-1800s when it was first built as a rest stop along the famous Chisholm Trail under the name of the Stagecoach Inn. It’s thought to be the oldest surviving structure in Salado and is one of the oldest hotels in Texas! It officially became a hotel in 1943 and since been listed in the National Register of Historic Places and is also a recorded Texas historic landmark!

Last year the Bunkhouse group who is behind some of our favorite boutique hotels in Texas including Hotel San Jose and the Austin Motel, renovated the hotel and took over as new management. Everything the Bunkhouse group touches turns to gold and the Shady Villa is no exception!

Shady Villa Hotel

The whole property is surrounded by lush greenery that truly makes you feel like you’re far from Texas! It has a retro vibe with western flares and almost makes you feel like you’re at summer camp, in the best way! The rooms have a classic mid-century modern motel feel with the cutest patios and the comfiest beds!

Spend the day relaxing by the retro style pool and playing games under the poolside pavilion or take the hotel bikes for a ride around the town of Salado!

The hotel also features the historic Stagecoach restaurant which dates back to 1861! They serve breakfast, lunch and dinner so you don’t even have to leave the property if you don’t want to! Enjoy locally sourced southern fare like hushpuppies, pimento cheese and chicken fried steak on the charming street side patio or the serene sunroom inside!
