A place that so many of y’all have recommended to us, we thought that featuring this 49-year-old hidden gem John's Cafe on Lowest Greenville was the perfect way kick off our weekend!
Updated July 2021
John’s Cafe opened in 1972 and moved to Greenville Ave a few years later. Find it in a strip mall where Thai Thai also sits! It’s easy to miss but you won’t want to… John’s is a Dallas institution. Opened by a Greek family including John, the idea was to bring fast, fresh fare to the neighborhood and with a lot of Greek influence!
Food
You’ll find classic diner offerings… eggs, pancakes, burgers, biscuits etc. But you can also order gyros and baklava. There’s even a gyro omelette with gyro meat, peppers, onions and cheese. Even though the plates might be greasy and messy, much of the food is actually locally sourced, and a lot of the produce John grows in his backyard! We understand why people are strongly local to the dive and have recommended it to us time and time again!
A standout for us: the super fluffy pancakes! Similar to other diners, it has that red booth casual feel to it, but with some Greek art and funky tables! It was a great time and we highly recommend adding to your list!
