Japanese cuisine is having a moment in Dallas, and we are loving it! The newest spot to arrive is Otaru Dallas, which just opened its doors in Bishop Arts in the original Lucia/former Isla & Co space! And it was a culinary TREAT to say the least!

OTARU Sushi & Handroll Bar
Otaru is the sister spot to the Hill’s Kome, another excellent, but accessible sushi spot in Dallas. So it’s not surprising that Otaru was equally as outstanding. They did a great job renovating the space too - walk in to most of it filled with a beautiful counter that surrounds the chefs at work!
$100 OMAKASE
We dove head-first into Otaru, ordering the 11-course omakase for $100, and were blown away by the truly exceptional value! Our experience included some of the creative, fruit forward chef’s specials like Mango Salmon and Yellow Tail Asian Pear. It followed with many pieces of nigiri, plus all the ingredients: uni, caviar, foie gras, scallop, gold foil, bluefin tuna, AND finished with ube ice cream!
HANDROLLS
The omakase isn’t the only great deal that you’ll find on the menu. The handrolls are too! Order a la carte, or order one of the sets from 3-6 total pieces, the largest costing $35, which includes scallop, lobster and a daily special.
NO RESERVATION NEEDED
Otaru is great if you’re seeking phenomenal, high quality sushi, with omakase options, without needing to set your clock to book within minutes of the reservation slots opening. And everything we ate was on par with those reservation-only, limited-seat spots around town!
Send this article your sushi-loving friends and make your plans to visit! It’s up there with the best sushi places in Dallas in our opinion and we can’t wait to go back!
ONE EXCEPTION
The only exception: the 17-course daily Chef’s Tasting omakase set at MKT price, does require an advanced reservation.
