When summer in Texas hits, there is no place we’d rather be than near the water and we’ve found the perfect spot to spend your weekends soaking up the sun! Just a short 30 min drive north of Dallas sits the historic Texas Pool, which is celebrating its 60th summer this year!

Built in Plano in 1959 by famous Texan Herbert Hunt, The Texas Pool is a 168,000-gallon saltwater pool shaped like the state of Texas. The pool opened to the public in 1961 and has been a summertime oasis for families + tourists for 60 years. In 2019 The Texas Pool was officially added to the National Register of Historic Places!

Membership & Pricing

The admission fee for a day pass to the pool is $10 per person for both children and adults and can be purchased at the gate when you get there! If you plan to hit the pool all summer long they have 4 different memberships available, ranging from $100 - $350. The pool is also available for private party rentals and can be booked through their website!

 

Food & Drinks

Outside food and drinks are allowed so pack a picnic lunch or bring burgers to cook on the gas grills. If you don’t feel like packing your own food, pizza delivery to the pool is always a good idea! Please note that they do not allow alcohol or glass containers at the pool.

 

Amenities

The pool has tons of great amenities for both children and adults! They have a diving board, 2 slides, a wading area, volleyball net, grills and they even have free life jackets available if needed.

 

Programs, Lessons & Classes

They offer a variety of aquatic and recreational programs including swim lessons, yoga and water yoga, scuba lessons, mermaid class (fun fact: it is one of the only mermaid monofin friendly pools in the DFW!), water and beach volleyball and chess club. Hours

The pool is open every summer from Memorial Day through Labor Day, Tuesday-Friday from 11-8 PM, Saturday from 10-8 PM and Sundays from 12-6 PM. It’s important to note it’s closed on Mondays!
