Relocating to DFW

If there is one, well two things, Texas does well, its Fried Chicken and BBQ, and we have rounded up some of our favorite fried chicken around Dallas! You can find fried chicken in so many places, but these are the best of the best. Head below to see who made the cut!

BABE'S CHICKEN DINNER HOUSE

Starting off right with the iconic local chain, Babe’s! Now we are aware that you have to drive out to the ‘burbs to enjoy it, but it is worth the drive or the pit stop if you are in the area. But the best thing about Babe’s is that they are a BYOB establishment, one of our favorite kinds of restaurants. On top of that, everything is served up homestyle!

BRICK & BONES

If you want your Deep Ellum nightlife and fried chicken too, then look no further than Brick & Bones! This establishment on Elm Street serves up drinks in the heart of all the late-night action! And apparently, they serve delicious fried chicken until 2 am as well!

BUBBA’S

This place holds a lot of nostalgia for Dallas natives, it has been serving us southern fried chicken since 1981. This retro-style diner that sits across from SMU took the top spot, with no surprise from us. It is one of the first places recommended when folks move here. You can order through the drive-thru if you’re feeling in a hurry or lazy, but we recommend you go in. It's just part of the experience of Bubba’s!

ELLEN'S

Ellen’s is the perfect spot for a classic southern-style brunch. They serve up a chicken-fried benedict, buttermilk fried chicken, chicken-fried steak, and chicken-fried chicken that will exceed your expectations! The menu also features classic southern sides, such as buffalo fries and creamy mac and cheese. End your visit on a sweet note with a variety of pies for dessert!

GUS'S WORLD FAMOUS FRIED CHICKEN

Gus’s World Famous Fried Chicken is a legendary restaurant with its roots in Memphis, TN. They bring the same famous, crispy, and juicy fried chicken straight here to the heart of Texas. The menu features classic southern sides, as well as unique options like fried chicken gizzards if you're feeling adventurous!

HATTI B'S HOT CHICKEN

Hattie B’s Hot Chicken is a popular chain for a reason! They offer several levels of heat, ranging from mild to extremely hot, and their menu features a variety of delicious hot chicken options, including tenders, wings, and sandwiches.

Deep Ellum | Directions

IDA CLAIRE

An intriguing, southern-inspired destination for relaxing suppers, slow weekend brunching, a meeting hub for business lunches, and happy hour! From their chicken and waffles to Ida's fried chicken, you can't go wrong with any dish served here!

Addison | Directions

LUCKY'S HOT CHICKEN

Lucky's is truly a staple in the world of hot chicken thanks to its bright red, retro, fiery-themed everything! Their hot chicken is incredible, and they also have a red velvet waffle that comes with three jumbo tenders. It is delicious and perfect Instagram material! Both locations deliver on the weekends until 2 am, so when you need that late-night snack, Lucky's has got you covered!

University Park | Lakewood

MIKE’S CHICKEN

Mike’s, tucked next to a laundromat in the Medical District, is another one of our favorites. The fried chicken is prepared fresh the night before and marinated all night in 10 spices. They have a particular process too, which means you’ll be waiting 15-20+ minutes, but it’s totally worth it! The family behind it is originally from Vietnam and opened up Mike’s after their son would only eat his mom’s fried chicken! So thanks Mike’s son for making your parents introduce us to some great chicken.

ODDFELLOWS

Oddfellows is a bustling, rustic-hip coffeehouse/diner that offers American fare morning till night, plus delicious cocktails! Their favorites include chicken fried steak, fried chicken and waffle, and buffalo mac. We are definitely not drooling over here thinking about it.

PALMER'S HOT CHICKEN

Enter our hot chicken favs! Palmer's is known for their authentic Nashville chicken, but they also have catfish, shrimp, and salads if hot chicken isn't your thing. Make sure to get a frosé and enjoy their full bar while you're there! 

Lakewood | Directions

RICKY'S HOT CHICKEN

Ricky's is just what you need to satisfy your Nashville hot chicken craving! Their heat comes in six different levels, and you can get either a quarter bird, wings, nuggets, a sandwich, or tenders. They also have what they call the Bird's Nest, which is essentially fries with chopped tenders on top and all the fixings, and chicken n' waffles on the weekends for brunch! Heads up, their Richardson location is closed Tuesday and Wednesday, and their Arlington location is closed Monday-Wednesday.

ROOTS CHICKEN SHAK

Located in Legacy Hall is Roots Chicken Shak, famous for frying their chicken and french fries in duck fat, which produces a one-of-a-kind flavor! Chef, Tiffany Derry, is nationally recognized, as she was not only in the final four on season 7 of Top Chef, but she also was a finalist on Top Chef: All Stars! The Dallas Morning News named her one of the 'Best Chefs in DFW,' and after visiting Roots, we couldn't agree more!

SLOW BONE

You wouldn't expect a barbecue place to have some of the best fried chicken, but we've heard it does! BBQ chicken is a thing, so we guess it does make sense for them to have fried chicken! Next time you are in the Design District searching for some chicken, you know where to go!

STREET’S FINE CHICKEN

So far we have named some pretty hole-in-the-wall places that fit the description of a “fried chicken” place, BUT Street’s is a little different. They are a more refined establishment where you actually sit down vs order at the counter. But fun fact, if you are in the mood for some fried chicken for brunch, then you have to come here! Their fried chicken and waffles are where it's at!

WHISTLE BRITCHES

Whistle Britches uses locally-sourced ingredients and cook their chicken to order, ensuring that each bite is hot and crispy! The menu features a variety of chicken options, including tenders, wings, and sandwiches, as well as creative sides like 3 cheese mac and Mexican street corn.

Yardbird Table & Bar is a modern take on classic southern cooking, including their famous fried chicken! It's known for its upscale atmosphere and creative menu, featuring dishes like its famous fried chicken and waffles with maple syrup, as well as signature cocktails.
