We often get asked about where to go for authentic Chinese food and that usually looks like heading up north to Plano or Richardson. We love to make it an adventure out of it and go up there without a specific place in mind, but rather search around on Google Maps the many restaurants not yet on our radar, read reviews and land on a spot to try! This is seriously how we often find hidden gems and awesome local restaurants. And recently, that looks like discovering ChongQing House in Plano, and we may just have our new go-to!

ChongQing is a true hidden gem tucked away in an unassuming strip mall in Plano, but that's what makes it so great! Once you step inside, you'll feel welcomed and cozy as the atmosphere is really inviting! It serves Sichuan style Chinese food, which our sweet waitress (who is from China and currently studying at UNT) proclaimed is the only place for authentic Sichuan in the metroplex!

Bring your appetite because the portions are huge and packed with flavor! Every dish is authentic with some modern adaptations highlighting an array of traditional Sichuan dishes with pork, chicken, shrimp, and lamb plus a variety of noodle dishes and veggie plates.

They also highlight popular street foods like fried rice cakes, jelly with brown sugar syrup, and green onion pancakes! If you can handle some heat, we highly recommend trying a dish with a sichuan pepper to get the full experience…prepare for a unique numbing sensation if you haven't yet tried this pepper.

The space is cozy and inviting featuring charming artwork and a cute chalkboard with all their specials on display in Chinese! If you come with a larger group, be sure to dine at one of their bigger tables with a lazy susan to serve family style.

If you are on the hunt for authentic Chinese food, you need to add ChongQing House to your list! We love supporting local gems like this and can't wait to go back.
