Nova is a place that’s been on our list for a long time. Located on W Davis in Oak Cliff, it’s been around for a decade, and we’ve always heard great things from locals who love it. We finally stopped by for brunch the other week and wow, the food was so so good!

Updated March 2021

Nova opened more than 10 years ago in a funky space with a mod 60’s design. It’s not over the top but instead provides brunch and dinner in a subtle retro atmosphere that adds to the overall eccentric nature of Nova. The owners spent time at other funky neighborhood spots like Twilight and Green Room in Deep Ellum if that helps lay the groundwork for what to expect from Nova.

The Menu

The food is sort of all over the place. They call themselves a gastropub and serve everything from pizza to pho to jerk chicken to Caribbean brined Berkshire chop. There are also Thai, Southern and Mexican dishes on the menu too. And while we can’t speak to how all those dishes come together, we can vouch for the brunch! The chilaquiles were some of the best we’ve had, as were the shrimp and grits, and we will be returning for the French toast casserole and smoked salmon benedict.

The Drinks

Nova is open until 2 AM daily, and food is served until midnight daily! There are a dozen+ eclectic cocktails like a berry gimlet, the mezcal old fashioned and the tequila mojito. There are also 25+ beers on draft, local and from around the world, and Monday through Friday 4-6 PM cocktails are $6! So if you’ve been looking for a spot that is no frills, with great food and drinks and a bit of a funky, locals-only vibe, add Nova to your list!
