MLK CENTER’S CELEBRATION WEEK

 

Wreath Laying Ceremony

Kick off the week celebrating the life and legacy of Martin Luther King! The City of Dallas and the MLK Community Center will hold a wreath laying ceremony at the MLK mural.

January 10th | South Dallas
 

Day of Prayer

Head to the Latino Cultural Center Thursday, January 12th from 2pm to 3:30pm for a day of prayer! The day will focus on reflecting on Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King’s spiritual legacy. The event is hosted by The City of Dallas and Faith Forward Dallas, with all religions welcome!

Candle Lighting Ceremony

Join Alpha Sigma Lambda for a candle lighting celebrating the life of Martin Luther King!

January 13th | South Dallas
 

2023 Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Parade

The Parade will start at the intersection of Holmes Street and MLK, Jr. Blvd. at 10:00 a.m., and proceed approximately one mile down Martin Luther King, Jr. Blvd, ending at Fair Park. The parade will feature approximately 250 entries from various community organizations, church groups, youth groups, nonprofit organizations, band/drill teams, colorful floats, and much more.

Dallas Institute’s Martin Luther King Jr. Symposium

The Dallas Institute of Humanities and Culture is highlighting the St. Paul United Methodist Church! Founded in 1873 under a brush arbor in Dallas’ Freedman’s Town, built by freed slaves, and restored by Sidney Pittman, St. Paul celebrates its 150th anniversary in 2023. Check it out for free from 6pm to 8pm!

Grandscape’s MLK Celebration

Honor and celebrate the life of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. at Grandscape’s MLK celebration on Saturday, January 14th, from 2pm to 4pm. The event takes place on the lawn with a live performance by the Private Property Band, food & drink vendors, photo ops, freebies, and more. Come out and enjoy this community event recognizing unity and honoring one of the most influential civil rights activists in history!

Dallas Public Library Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration

Kids can learn all about Martin Luther King at the Prairie Creek branch of the Dallas Public Library! Enjoy the ambiance of music from Kamica King with refreshments served on a first come first serve basis. Then, read the interactive wall of Martin Luther King Jr's famous "I Have a Dream" speech and earn a reading certificate. The free celebration is from Noon to 2:00pm!

MLK Celebration & Peace March

Free community event featuring keynote speaker Donzaleigh Abernathy, Goddaughter of Martin Luther King, Jr. Enjoy a variety of special performances followed by a peace march.
