Longing for a summer vacation and warmer weather? Well, you don't need leave Dallas to get the feeling of beach vacation thanks to The Original Seafood Bar, previously know as Palapas!

Updated January 2022

ABOUT

Palapas Seafood Bar opened back in 2013, in the space that housed the iconic Dallas Tortilla and Tamale Factory for 50 years. The restaurant’s inspiration: seafood from Sinaloa, Mexico, known for its shrimp. And as of a week ago, the name has changed from Palapas to Original Seafood Bar as mentioned by our waiter!

ATMOSPHERE

The name Palapas makes sense once you arrive and see the palm leave-lined patio overhangs. (The Mexican name for an open sided dwelling with a thatched roof.) The patios are filled with colorful Loteria card murals or stay inside at the bar with high top tables and a beachy vibe or in the nicer dining room with a Mexican cantina ambience.

FOOD

Come here for great seafood, something that’s hard to come by in Dallas. Fish tacos, ceviche, aguachiles, oysters, octopus and more...the list goes on of fresh seafood dishes prepared raw or on the grill. The specialty is the Mariscoco, a seafood cocktail served in a young coconut shell, coconut meat and water, plus octopus, shrimp and scallops. We tried & loved it!

DRINKS

The entire restaurant gives an air of relaxation, perfect for a cold beer or pina colada...all that’s missing is the ocean! Their other cocktails are unique and beach-ready too like the cocorita, mangonada, piñata and agua-lumbre martini! We wish we could have sampled them all but can give high praise to the house made pina.

Original Seafood Bar is open daily from 11am-10pm and you can count on finding it filled with people who know and love the restaurant. We even ran into the chef/owner of El Come Taco while there, who mentioned it was his hangover go-to.
